slow boat to china
While
on holiday in Tahiti, I stumbled upon a 125-foot boat manned by
a crew of people who were producing a television documentary
called, "The Return of Marco Polo". After a conversation with
the captain, I joined the crew the next day sailed towards the
Cook Islands.
I spent a year on that boat sailing from Tahiti to Hong Kong producing, directing and editing documentaries about third world
countries. That was one of the greatest adventures of my life. I
still recall sitting on deck at night and while gazing up at the
heavens, thinking about how lucky I was. I had planned to work
for two years but by the time we sailed into Hong Kong harbor,
and anchored in a spot which is now reclaimed land, it was
indeed time to jump ship. The gig was up and I began a new life
in Hong Kong.
