Gregory Burns passion for art began as a boy growing up in Paris where he painted bottles of Beaujolais and slices of French bread. During his first university art class Gregory discovered a passion for the nude. He slipped into Asia in 1984, where he studied Chinese brush painting and calligraphy with local masters in Taiwan and China. With broken Mandarin and paintbrushes he began a summer backpacking trip overland through China, Tibet, Nepal, India and Pakistan, which stretched into a 16-month sojourn. Since completing his Master of Fine Art in Painting in 1999, the intrepid traveler continues to cast a wide net in order to pull in a diverse collection of colors and imagery from which he tries to express this journey towards a meaningful life.
Since 1980, Gregory has held 80 solo and group painting exhibitions in over a dozen countries and has been the celebrated Artist-in-Residence at more than thirty venues globally. Gregory has published two books in English and one in Mandarin and is represented by the Tanya Baxter Gallery in London, the Tony Raka Gallery in Bali and the Yang Gallery in Singapore and Beijing.
Always reinventing himself, Gregory hoped embracing digital media might offer him a more contemporary approach to painting. Embracing a stylus and computer screen, he embarked on a new journey. Combining his sketches, paintings, photos, fodder and prose he began collaging together imagery and messages with pixels instead of paint. Like the excitement that comes with discovering a new muse, he found a fresh fun energy flowing though his art. This dynamic media seamlessly combines the past and present into imagery that excites and pleases him. Welcome to Gregory’s new world of digital mixed media paintings.
